Brothling and the Whippersnappers
We warmed up at the path by scurrying around a few easy slabs, then a couple of problems on the egg boulder followed by the lads sieging Base Camp Traverse 6a, Daragh got close, real close but was denied glory, Adam Suceeded, it was his first 6A, well done dude !! I did Howard's Roof 6B, I wish that thing was about 10ft longer, and Beachball 6A before munching ham and Dubliner cheese sambo's for lunch. You can't beat the Dubliner cheese, it's awesome, has nothing to do with Dublin though,it's made in Cork.
We crossed the river and visited Big Jim, the lads got to work on Smear Test 5 and found the classic slab problem really fun. I warmed up on the steep 5+, also classic, and then I had a shot of Duffy's Slap 6B+. It's a class problem, two opposed sidepulls, little footholds and a beautiful dynamic slap to the base of a slopey groove, a magical move, I was happy to do this problem as I was never able to get off the ground on it years ago. Jamie worked it and got it too.
Barry's Problem 6C+
Next up was my proj Barry's Problem 6C+. I had a session on it a while back and managed to latch the first powerful, crimpy deadpoint, this time round I hit the deadpoint many times and I manged to latch the next jug, alas both times I caught it I dabbed on the swing and had to let go, I am ridiculously close to sending it :) The hand jam at the beginning is a horendously painful thing and took all the skin off the back of my fingers. I might try it again before Albarracin, if not I will deffo be back to Glendo before the end of April to get it. We walked out of Glendalough in the dark exhausted after a 6 hour bouldering frenzy.
Today me and J went up to 3rock to meet Eoin for a session. After the first 15 minutes my elbows were killing me and I had to stop climbing. The lads clambered away and had a good aul day. Great weekend out and about, our skin is fucked !! We headed up to the 53 Degrees North shop in Carrickmines to buy Jamie a pair of Scarpa Instinct lace ups, they had one pair left, it was his size and they were half price, what a stroke of luck :) Happy climbing folks !!
