It was back once again to Larry The Goats for another installment of summer bouldering and to have another go at that sweet prow problem. The sun was out again, but there was a lovely breeze keeping everything relatively cool. I was mad to find a spotter because the prow I was trying is pretty high and late in the evening Pat called me and told me he was the man for the job, quality, thanks Pat :)
Warmed up traversing about and felt pretty good after a days rest. The slighly cooler temps made hanging slopers a little easier and I managed to do the lovely 5+ sit start from an undercut to mad slopey slaps and mantle I'd been working on, great little low ball and felt hard for the grade.
Onto the prow we went and we had another fine battle. I had a sequence dialed so the fight now was a mental one. I had to will myself on to do the high top out, one move higher each go. I finally got the balls together and climbed it quickly and committed to the top out, it felt great to get it. Not the hardest grade I ever climbed but I broke through a significant mental barrier as it was the first time in ages I tried to top out something that high. It feels amazing to be back bouldering properly on nice high problems, it's looking like it is gonna be a sweet summer of outdoor bouldering for me at last :)
I started work on a super looking steep line to the left of the prow on nice edges and crimps so as that I could have the sequence working over in my head for the next time I get back down here. Look at the vicious pinch strength on this lad in the photo bellow !!
My three days at Larry The Goats were fantastic I learned a thing or two on a new style of rock. Great craic and weather all the way. Hmmm ... where to next ?? ... I think the Cooley mountains are next on the agenda and I better start squeezing in some studies for my exams in 10 days. Happy climbing folks :)
Nice few posts CiarĂ¡n. Was there the other day just for a look. It's a stunning spot, can't wait to go back and climb there.
