Larry The Goats

Another sweet day summer bouldering in lovely weather :) I went to check out a spot that had caught my eye in the new bouldering guidebook. It's called Larry The Goats and it's a beautiful little hidden away coastal area 5k west of Tramore. It's a case of quality not quantity, the little outcrop of smooth and slippy sea polished limestone has around 20 quality problems in a tranquil setting.
The walk in was suppose to take 20 mins but took me ages because my inner photographer couldn't help photographing the striking coastlines many sea stacks, small islands and arches.
The climbing area itself has a great hidden away in the middle of nowhere feel, a super place to get lost in ones thoughts and boulder for a day.
The climbing was great. Definitely the weirdest rock I have encountered. It's very shiny and frictionless limestone and it's full of slopers and it's steep. You need to place your feet well and concentrate on keeping them on. My hands spent a couple of hours slapping and sliding off silk slopers. It's a great challenge to climb here and a style of climbing I enjoyed learning from. Some of the steep lines here are stunning, hard and extremely impressive. I scurried around on some traverses to warm up, then I did a couple of really hard 5's which took me a while to get and then I climbed a lovely 6a in the picture below. This place gets the motivated squirrel seal of approval :)
