Training For Climbing

I have upped my training regime in the hope of reaping some benefits and results on the rock and for getting just all round generally fitter. No longer will I shy away from cardio work and just replace it with extra climbing sessions as I believe this was causing me damage and stunting my progress by way of over - training. So I used to climb 5 days a week, now I am climbing 4 and having 2 cardio climbing rest days which will hopefully increase my general fitness and aid recovery. I can’t run since the accident so my cardio will take place on the cycling and rowing machine and in the swimming pool.

I train bouldering at the Co op and routes at the gym in Naas. So 4 climbing sessions a week means 2 in the Co op and 2 in Naas. I also found this sweet weights machine in Naas which lets you take some weight off your body for pull ups, so I am training one armers on this and I am hoping to keep witling down the amount of counter weight I need. Currently I can do a one armer with 20 K body weight removed. I got my body fat measured at 13 percent and I am trying to get it down to 10 percent. And for core work I can do the human flag so I am now trying to do a front lever(well hard).

Here is my Co op and Naas training sessions .. Bring on the beastliness :)

Bouldering session :

15 minute warm up and stretching
2 hours bouldering
3 sets Fingerboard repeaters
3 sets of 8 Weighted pull ups
8 laps of a stamina circuit

Naas session :

5K cycling
2K rowing
3 sets of 20 push ups
3 sets of 10 tricep dips
3 sets of 3 one armed pull ups minus 25 K body weight
1 max one armed pull up for each arm minus 20 K body weight
3 sets 12 sit ups
3 to 4 hours route climbing

Climbing rest days (I hate them) :

5K cycling
2K rowing
20 min swimming

Or

A nice hike

So, what's my motivation I hear you ask ... my new trip to Thailand with my California climbing partner Jenni in march :) can't wait, and also I am waiting for all this snow to bugger off so I can get out on some bouldering problems,  cheers, happy training folks !!
